Early 20th century: Atlas Chain Co made anchor chains

Faced with the need to cut the grass around the factory, Charles Henry Pugh, owner of the company, invented the 12 inch Atco Standard 9 Blade mower, the world' first mass produced petrol-engine powered mower.

Pugh decided to focus the company on making Atco Mowers

The original machine was displayed at the British Lawnmower Museum on Merseyside.
