Early education at Dulwich College and passed on the Wadham College, Oxford. AT Oxford he had a brilliant academic career.

1888 Made a Stowel Law Fellow of University College in his forteith year.

1890 Called to the Bar by the Inner Temple. For twelve years he practiced as a barrister at the Surrey Sessions and on the South-Eastern Circuit.

1902-1905 Assistant librarian at the House of Commons, following which he became secretary to the Railway Companies' Association. At this time he combined his secretarial duties with a lectureship on railway law and history at the London School of Economics.

1908 Board of Trade Railway Conference

1909 Departmental Committee on Railway Amalgamations

1910 Delegate at the Colonial Copyright Conference held in Washington.

1919 He served on the Economic Section of the Peace Conference.

He was associated with Departmental Committee on Merchandise Marks and the Royal Commission on Awards to Inventors.

Retired from the office of Comptroller-General of Patents, Designs and Trade Marks on account of ill-health in early March last.

1926 Died on 4th July at home in London in his sixty-fourth year.
