Swan Coates and Co, Cargo Fleet Ironworks, Middlesborough.
1865 the Partnership between John George Swan, Henry Van Straubenzee, John Wind Coates, and George Newcomen, carrying on the business of Ironmasters, at the Cargo Fleet Iron Works, in the county of York, under the style or firm of Swan, Straubenzee, Coates, and Co., was dissolved by mutual consent, as far as regards the said Henry Van Straubenzee, who had retired. The business was carried on by Swan, Coates, and Newcomen[1]
1866 Built Cargo Fleet Ironworks
1869 Two new furnaces were being installed for making pig iron[2]
1870 Major Coates, a partner in the firm of Swan, Coates and Co, died on the 7th of July, whilst on a visit to Scarborough.[3]
