1688 John Potter was born, and William Moore a few years later. Both were descendents of well-known Mitcham families.
1749 They became associated and founded the business of Potter and Moore. They were known at that time as physic gardeners which included the cultivation of herbs and flowers. Lavender was their speciality.
John and William took their knowledge and expertise in working with natural ingredients and applied it to creating fine bath, body and beauty products. They believed that personal individuality is created by the harmonious use of a fragrance that will blend with every mood and need. Their reputation for fine beauty products flourished and made them a National success.
1937 Gracie Fields opened their new factory on 4 July.
1947 Listed Exhibitor - British Industries Fair. Manufacturers of Mitcham Lavender Water and a range of Toilet Requisites, Eau de Cologne, "Ecstacy" Perfume, etc., Powder-Cream, Face Powders, Lipsticks, Brilliantines, Bath Crystals, Bath Salt Tablets, Sachets and Smelling Salts.
