Phoenix Mill, Ancoats
of Piercy Street, Ancoats
1849 Shown on the O.S. map as Phoenix Mills (Cotton), on the northwest side of the Ashton Canal, directly opposite Hope Mill. The other side of the mill was on Piercy Street, while the south western end was on Carruthers Street, and the north eastern end was bounded by a timber yard. The site measured approx 320 ft by 120 ft, and was almost entirely occupied by buildings, whose size and shape suggests that buildings had been added progressively. The boiler house and chimney were at the north eastern end.
1851 Shown on Adshead's 1851 Maps of Manchester as belonging to Joseph Clarke and Brothers.
