William Angus Macfarlane
William Angus Macfarlane (1908-19th August 1969)
'We regret to announce the death of Dr. William Angus Macfarlane, C.B.E., President of the Institute of Fuel, which occurred on August 19. Dr. Macfarlane, who was managing director of the National Fuel Efficiency Service, was born in 1908, and educated at Westminster and Oxford. After graduating he remained in Balliol for two years as a demonstrator and then went to the University of California, where he was awarded his Ph.D. Dr. Macfarlane joined the L.M.S. Railway as a senior research chemist in 1938, and on the formation of the Ministry of Fuel and Power in 1941 he was appointed Director of Fuel Efficiency'.ref>The Engineer 1961/09/01, p378.</ref>
