"JOHN JOSEPH TAIT was associated with the motor industry during the whole of his professional career. He received his education at the Royal Technical College, Glasgow, and served his apprenticeship with Messrs. T. Melvin and Sons, Ltd., general engineers. In the course of the next seven years he gained experience as a draughtsman with various motor firms, including the Albion Motor Car Co, of Glasgow. After a brief engagement with the Argyll Motor Car Co as designing draughtsman he spent the next four years in a similar capacity with Messrs. Dennis Brothers, Ltd., at Guildford. He returned to the former company in 1920 to take charge of the drawing office, where he remained until 1932 when he received his final appointment as draughtsman with Messrs. McNamara, Ltd., road transport contractors, London, and was actively engaged on the design, manufacture, and superintending the erection of various types of commercial vehicles until shortly before his death, which occurred on 31st July 1947. Mr. Tait was elected an Associate Member of the Institution in 1914."
