WILLIAM JAMES HODSON, Jun., was born at Misterton, Notts., on 20th November 1881, and was educated at the Grammar Schools at Gainsborough and at Retford, with subsequent attendance at local science classes.
He served an apprenticeship in the works of [Marshall, Sons and Co|Messrs. Marshall Sons and Co.]], Gainsborough, and after finishing his term in 1906 he spent some time with Messrs. Crompton and Co., Chelmsford, and with Messrs. D. Napier and Sons, Acton Vale, London, in which positions he gained experience in electrical matters and in general motor-car work.
Leaving England in 1908, he went to India as engineer to the Sarrapore Tea Co., Cachar, taking charge there of the electric lighting plant, telephones, etc., and 12 miles of light railway, also acting as engineer for the Lakhipur Saw Mills.
Four years later he became Manager of Messrs. Oakes and Co.'s motor works at Ootacamund, and in 1913 was appointed engineer for the Majagram Tea Estate, Cachar, and consulting engineer to the Scottpore Tea Co.
Mr. Hodson died on 22nd June 1925.
He became an Associate Member of this Institution in 1915.
