JOHN RICHARD MUSGRAVE was born in 1867, and gained his early education at the Collegiate School, Otley, and at the Pannal College, Harrogate.
He served his apprenticeship, from 1883 to 1886, with Messrs. Payne and Sons, of the Atlas Works, Otley, and for a further two years with Messrs. Henry Berry and Co., Croydon Works, Leeds, afterwards joining this latter firm as a partner.
Towards the end of 1893 he retired from this position and, with his brother as his colleague, founded the business of Musgrave Brothers, Hydraulic and General Engineers, Crown Point Foundry, Leeds. With this business, which specialized in hydraulic machinery and tools of all kinds, and also in technical items connected with the oil milling and confectionery trades.
Mr. Musgrave was associated up to the day of his death, which occurred at Leeds on 30th March 1924, in his fifty-seventh year.
He became a Member of this Institution in 1899.
