British Telecommunications Systems was formed by British Telecom, GEC, Standard Telephones and Cables and Plessey Co in 1979 to market overseas the exchange, developed at a cost of £200 million.

Developing 'System X', the advanced electronic telephone exchange. By 1982 still had no orders for it.
