1895 James Sumner produced a three-wheel 'horseless carriage' for William Theodore Carr of Carr and Co, a biscuit manufacturer, of Carlisle. Produced an improved version for the same person the following year.

1898 August. Letter about his cars.[1]

1898 September. Details and images of his steam car.[2]

1901 Living at Sunny Croft, Dalston, Cumberland age 34, biscuit and bread manufacturer, with his wife Edith M. J. (age 28) and children Dorothy (age 6), Stanley T. (age 4), Edith A. (age 3) plus three servants. [3]
