WILLIAM CALVERT SHAW was associated with the firm of Messrs. Shaw, Son, and Greenhalgh, Ltd., of Huddersfield, from his apprenticeship, from 1895 to 1900, up to the time of his death which occurred on 2nd June 1941. During that long period, he was at an early age placed in charge of the drawing office and in, 1900 became assistant works manager. He was responsible for the design and construction of high-pressure steam valves and boiler mountings.
In 1902 he was appointed a director of the firm and also acted as outside engineer. Mr. Shaw, who was born in 1881, received his education at Huddersfield College and at the technical school in that town. He was elected a Graduate of the Institution in 1902, and was transferred to Associate Membership in 1909.
