"ALFRED TRAFFORD, whose death occurred on 5th January 1951 at the age of seventy-nine, was a member of the Institution for fifty-five years. He was elected an Associate Member in 1896 and transferred to Membership ten years later. After serving an apprenticeship with Nettlefolds, Ltd., Birmingham, from 1886 to 1892, he joined the firm of W. Bown, Ltd., where he was manager of the screw-making department for three years. His next appointment was that of works manager to Rippingilles Albion Lamp Company, Ltd., Birmingham, where he remained until 1900, when he went to Salford and joined the staff of the General Electric Company, Ltd., as assistant works manager. He was promoted to be works manager five years later, but relinquished this position in 1907. After spending the next six years in travelling, chiefly abroad, Mr. Trafford became chairman of C. Haseler and Son, Ltd., engineers, and continued to hold this office until his death. Mr. Trafford was a Freeman of the City of London."
