Mr. John MacCunn, a well-known and much-respected shipowner and merchant, died at his residence at Greenock last Tuesday morning, after a short illness, at seventy-one years of age.
The deceased gentleman was well-known in shipping and commercial circles, not only in Greenock and the West of Scotland generally, but also in London, Liverpool, &c., some of the ships owned by him while in the China tea trade having earned a world-wide reputation for having made some of the fastest passages on record.
For many years in his early life life Mr. MacCunn held an important position in the firm of Messrs. Scott and Sons, shipbuilders, Greenock.
