1907 Auto-Cycle Club Trial - October

The last important hill-climbing contest of the season was on Saturday last, under the auspices of this club. at Sharpenhoe some six miles north of Luton. The hill has a fairly consistent gradient, its steepest part being 1 in 7.7, while there is a 700 yards stretch of 1 in 10. The surface of the hill is excellent, and the climb is not is so difficult to negotiate as Birdlip Hill. near Gloucester, which the venue originally decided upon for the event.
Class 1 for machines weighing not more than 110lb and not exceeding 2 h.p.
Class 2. For machines with engines not, exceeding 80mm by 80mm or equivalent capacity.

- H. S. Catling, 2.75 h.p. Anglian
Class 3. For machines with engines not exceeding 85 by 85mm. or equivalent capacity.
- W. Pollard. 3.5 h.p. Quadrant.
- G. Lee Evans, 3.5 h.p. Rex
Class 4. For machines with twin-cylinder engines, total capacity not exceeding 750 cubic cms.
- O. C. Godfrey, 5 h.p. Rex
- F. Applebee, jun, 5 h.p. Rex
- O. L. Summers, 5 h.p. Vindec Special (Winner on club Formula)
Class 5. For machines with any size engine eligible in the proceeding classes.

Class 6. Variable gear competition; competitors made two ascents, being required to stop and restart at given signals in the second trial.

Class 7. For passenger machines, size of each cylinder not exceeding 100 by 100mm or its equivalent volume swept out.
