1865-8 Apprentice at the Locomotive Works of Neilson Brothers, Glasgow

1871 Graduated from Glasgow University with certificate of proficiency in engineering science.

1915 Obituary

FREDERICK GRIFFITH, born on the 24th April, 1840, died at Barbridge, Nantwich, on the 22nd March, 1914.

He studied at Glasgow University, and served his apprenticeship at the locomotive works of Messrs. Neilson Bros., Glasgow.

Subsequently he was employed by the Caledonian Railway Company on surveys and estimates for docks at Grangemouth; as Resident Engineer on dock and canal works at Runcorn, for the Bridgewater Navigation, and was Engineer-in-Charge of Rosslare harbour works.

Early in 1870 he was appointed Engineer-in-Charge of flood-prevention works to the Corporation of Leicester, and later in that year Engineer and Manager of the Corporation Waterworks. He discharged the duties of this office until his death, a period of 34 years.

Mr. Griffith was elected an Associate of The Institution on the 7th December, 1875, was subsequently placed among the Associate Members, and was transferred to the class of Members on the 2nd November, 1886.
