School, and Victoria University, Manchester. 19c 8I2—Chemist, United Alkali Co. 1912-13—Assayer, Quirk, Barton and Burns (St. Helen's), Ltd., lead smelters. 1913-16—Victoria University, first class honours in Metallurgy, Fuel and Electro Technics. 1916-18—Chief Assistant in Research Department of Sir W. G. Armstrong, Whitworth and Co., Ltd., Openshaw; researches on quality, efficiency and defects in tool steels, and press forging nickel chrome steels. 1919—Chief of Research Department, Samuel Fox and Co., Ltd., Stocksbridge, near Sheffield. Member of Iron and Steel Institute, and Faraday Society.
