1823 The Belfast Gas Works were first established, close to the River Lagan,. The ground occupied was only about 1 acre, and the plant was necessarily on a very small scale.

From 1852 onwards business improved greatly

1874 The Corporation purchased the undertaking - see Belfast Corporation Gasworks
