Thomas Lawday

Born in London in 1778. Married in 1808.
Employed by Hall of Dartford as an engineer to erect steam engines in spinning mills at Essonnes, St.-Quentin, Lille, Cambrai, Paris, Mulhouse, Gubweiller and Elbeuf. He than established his own company as an engineer-mechanician in the rue Saint-Julien, Rouen, early in 1825. [1]
1833 According to Thomas Powell, "The first important factory for the construction of steam engines at Rouen was founded about the year 1833, by Mr. Lawday."[2]
