Newson Garrett (1812-1893) son of Richard Garrett (1779-1837)

Moved to London where he became a pawnbroker

Later moved to Aldeburgh and built up Snape Maltings

Owned Slaughden Quay with his brother Richard

Married May Louisa Dunnell (1813-1903), the sister of his brother Richard's wife

Had ten children. Daughters Elizabeth (later Elizabeth Garrett Anderson (1836-1917)), a medical pioneer, and Millicent (later Millicent Fawcett), who became a prominent campaigner for women's rights.
