The Shrewsbury and Wellington Joint Railway ran from Shrewsbury (Abbey Foregate station) to Wellington, a distance of10 miles (16 km).

1846 Construction started, a joint effort between the Shropshire Union Railways and the Shrewsbury and Birmingham Railway.

1849 The line opened simultaneously with the SUR line from Stafford and the first section of the S&BR between Wellington and Oakengates.

1923 the S&WJR was joint GWR/LMS
