1828 john Briggs, of Tintern-Abbey, in the County of Monmouth, Iron-Master and Wire-Manufacturer, Dealer and Chapman, was declared a Bankrupt[1]

In 1854 (no. 1145) he proposed to place within a compass box a double concentric ring of magnets. See The Engineer 1866/06/29 page 469 for more details.
