Lieutenant Thomas Waghorn (1800–1850), naval officer and self-publicist

1843 Claimed to have been "a pioneer of the 'overland route' to the East"; in fact in previous years he seems to have spent time and energy promoting use of the new steam ships.

1847 Member of 'a Committee for promoting the extension of Steam Navigation to Australia and New Zealand'.
