"The ore carrier Bamburgh Castle was constructed at the Neptune works of Swan, Hunter and Wigham Richardson Ltd. to the order of The Bamburgh Shipping Co Ltd., and carries a deadweight of 16,750 tons on 29ft 6in mean draught. A speed of 14 knots was attained on trial and the propelling machinery, placed aft, consists of a four-cylinder Swan, Hunter-Doxford oil engine, designed for 4200 b.h.p. in service at 110 r.p.m., and fitted for burning boiler fuel. There are three 200kW diesel-driven generators and the ship's dimensions are: length between perpendiculars 485ft, breadth 70ft, and depth 40ft 9in. Each of the two ore holds is served by three hatches fitted with MacGregor steel covers."[1]
