1884 The Institution was founded

1898 The Institution was incorporated

c.1908 A new section was formed in Glasgow

By 1910 it had about 1100 members. The President was William Melville, M.Inst. C.E., engineer-in-chief of the Glasgow and South-Western Railway

1922 Mr Alfred Weeks Szlumper was President.

Today, the Institution, which exists purely for the world of rail infrastructure engineering, provides its members with a forum to share and gain knowledge, experience and competency.
