1833 Born at Exeter the son of Henry Lake
1851 Living at 214 High Street, Exeter: Henry Lake (age 42 born Exeter), Jeweller (Master) and Widower. With his eight children. The three sons were John Lake (age 18 born Exeter), Jeweller's Assistant; Henry Lake (age 13 born Exeter); and Charles Lake (age 7 born Exeter).[1]
1901 Living at St. Germans House, Pennsylvania, Exeter: John E. Lake (age 58 born Exeter), Gold and Silversmith (Employer). With his wife Elizabeth, three daughters and son John Henry Lake (age 23 born Cheltenham), Goldsmith Assistant.[2]
1933 February 28th. John Ellett Lake and Son announce they are closing and offer a half-price sale.[3]
John Ellett Lake and Son were well-known antique silver dealers; their own publicity suggests that they were established in 1833. By the early 1930s they had been incorporated into the antique silver dealer firm of William Bruford and Sons.
