1895. Basket-handle bridge on nine stone piers over Orange River, possibly at Bethulie

1896 Photo here. NB in the photo there appear to be c.30 footings in the river just beside this bridge suggesting an earlier bridge on the same site - could this have been the Bethulie Bridge (S. Africa) which had 22 piers?

This photo shows the bridge after it had been destroyed in the Boer War and c.1900 photo with a rapidly-constructed rail bridge alongside.
