1871 Bankrupt. 'A meeting of the creditors of Marshall Tweddell, merchant and ship-owner, of Sunderland, and Ralph H. Tweddell and Co., engine builders, Monkwearmouth, has been called, and in the meantime these firms have suspended payment, the total liabilities being estimated at £50,000 .... . Mr. Marshall Tweddell has been extensive buyer in iron ships, and most of the creditors are out of Sunderland.'[1]
