Manager the Edinburgh Gas Light Co

1891 Died. 'The death of Mr John Kippen Watson, F.R.S.E., late treasurer and manager the Edinburgh Gas Light Company, as having occurred at his residence, Blackford Road, Edinburgh. Deceased's father was founder and original manager of the Edinburgh Gas Light Company in 1818, and upon the death of that gentleman Mr Watson was appointed manager. Watson's father had sketched out and originated a system upon which the Company should be wrought, and this system was meet fully and completely developed by the deceased, who, besides being an experienced practical engineer was admirable accountant. Mr Watson retired from active life a full pension on the acquisition of the gas undertaking by the Edinburgh Corporation. He leaves two sons—one medical doctor in the South of England, and the other a chartered accountant in Edinburgh—and a widow.'[1]
