At some point presumably diversified into steel wool.

1937 Listed Exhibitor - British Industries Fair. "Alco" British-made Steel Wool. Many grades packed boxes or rolls in bulk, balls and pads. Also Non-ferrous Metal wools, Air Filter Pads, and Mattresses in various Metal Wools. (Stand No. A.740) [1]
