Morayshire Railway
The Morayshire Railway was the first railway to be built north of Aberdeen.
1846 Received royal assent
1851 Construction began.
1852 The first phase, from Elgin to Lossiemouth, was completed.
1858 The second phase was completed once the Inverness and Aberdeen Junction Railwayhad reached Keith via Elgin, by connecting the Craigellachie line at Orton.
1862 Constructed a new section of track between its stations at Elgin and Rothes to avoid further disagreement with the Inverness and Aberdeen Junction Railway.
1863 Connected to the new Great North of Scotland Railway Craigellachie station.
1866 The Great North of Scotland Railway took over operation of the track.
1868 Consulting Engineers are James Samuel and W. H. Mills.[1]
1869 Consulting engineers; James Samuel and W. H. Mills.[2]
1881 amalgamated with the Great North of Scotland Railway.
