One of the designs of safety lamps for mining

1813 Invented by Dr. Clanny.

According to Bagot: he attempted to improve the light yielded by the Davy lamp by substituting a short thick glass cylinder round the flame instead of the wire gauze. But this lamp was introduced 2 years before the Davy and the Geordie lamps so the development is open to question.
