Mr R. F. Clarke (Member) received his practical training with the Midland Railway, later the L.M.S., at Derby and attended Derby Technical College. He was appointed Assistant Works Inspector and, for the next few years, was engaged on the inspection and supervision of locomotive contracts.
He then joined the Crown Agents for the Colonies and dealt with a wide range of engineering contracts and supplies for the colonies.
In 1934 he moved to I.C.I. (Alkali) Ltd as Inspecting Engineer and when the company started central inspection he became Senior Inspecting Engineer in the Birmingham area. Since 1952 he has held a similar post in the Sheffield area.
Mr Clarke joined the Institution as a Student in 1922 transferring to Graduate in 1925, Associate Member in 1930 and Member in 1950. He has served on the Yorkshire Branch committee since 1955 and was a Vice-Chairman before his recent election to Yorkshire Branch Chairman.
