1968 George Nott Industries, owner of Townsend Car Ferries, purchased the Otto Thoresen Shipping Co and its subsidiary Thoresen Car Ferries. Renamed European Ferries.

1985 P&O sold its cross-Channel ferry activities (Dover-Boulogne and Southampton-Le Havre), to European Ferries.

1986 P&O acquired an interest in European Financial Holdings Limited which held shares in European Ferries

1987 A majority interest was acquired by Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co
