James H Garstang & Co of Bank Top Foundry, Blackburn, Lancashire
- Bank Top Foundry was owned by James Henry Garstang (1870) and then Ashton, Frost and Co (1878)[1]
- 1870 Horizontal steam pumping engine for Rylands and Sons, Gidlow and Swinley Collieries, Wigan. This was located at the bottom of the mine, and pumped at 325 psi water pressure. Steam cylinder 20" bore, 18" stroke.[2]
- 1873 'A meeting of the creditors of Messrs. James Henry Garstang and Jerrald Edward Willett, trading as Garstang and Willett, Bank Top Foundry, Blackburn, engineers, millwrights, and ironfounders, was held on Tuesday afternoon, at the Clarence Hotel, Manchester. The meeting was convened by Messrs. Boote and Edgar, solicitors, Manchester, and Messrs. Holden and olden, solicitors, Bolton. Mr. J. Kevan, of the firm J Kevan, accountants, read the statement of affairs, which showed the liabilities to be £13,328, and assets £10,950. Liquidation by arrangement was agreed upon, and Mr. Handley, of H. Vaughan and Co., accountant*, Princess-street, Manchester, was appointed trustee.'[3]
