Caillard frères of Le Havre

1912 Series of railway steam powered 50 ton capacity breakdown cranes for various French Railway companies; many of which survived to be converted to diesel power by the SNCF. At least three survive in preservation.

Principally a maker of gantry, dockside and shipyard cranes; and did build a certain number of rail cranes for industrial users.

In the 1970s and 80s they built a modest number of diesel powered breakdown cranes for export ( to Bangladesh, Cameroon, Nigeria, EARH and Upper Volta )

Taken over by Fives-Lille ( ca.1980-1 )

Taken over by Rolls Royce Materials Handling Ltd. in 1996.

Sold as a purely after-sales operation to KCI Konecranes of Finland in 2001. By then with only 20 employees, the firm would no longer manufacture complete cranes, but would concentrate on spares, modernisations, upgrades and maintenance for its world-wide installed base of more than 1,000 cranes.
