John Alexander (c1825-1895)

Between 1878 and 1896 all 16 furnaces at Gartsherrie Iron Works were replaced and by-product recovery plant was installed (the invention of John Alexander and Andrew Kirkwood McCosh the Gartsherrie managers who were two of the new management team which had taken over following the deaths of the original brothers).

1881 Residing at Coal Hole, Old Monkland: John Alexander (age 56 born Bothwell), Iron Master (Partner of Firm of W. Baird and Co).

1895 Died. 'THE death is announced of Mr John Alexander, the of William Baird and Co., iron-masters, Gartsherrie, aged 70 years. Deceased was one of the pioneers of tie volunteer movement.'[1]
