James Murgatroyd (c1829-1894) of Mills and Murgatroyd

1894 Died. 'The death is announced, at his residence, Warley, Palatine-road, Didsbury, of Mr. James Murgatroyd, of the firm of Messrs. Mills and Murgatroyd, architects, in this city. Mr. Murgatroyd would, had he lived a few days longer, have completed his 65th year. He was a gentleman who took a prominent part in the planning several of the large public buildings in Manchester, notably the Royal Exchange, and the Manchester Workhouse at Crumpsall. He was for some years member of the Committee of the Technical School, and only recently he was appointed by the Governors of the Royal Institution of a seat on the Committee. Mr. Murgatroyd was also well known an assessor and arbitrator. He leaves a widow and 10 children'[1]
