1857 Read a paper before the Chemical Society on "Influence of the Labour of the Treadwheel over Respiration and Pulsation and It's Relation to the Waste of the System and the Dietary of the Prisoners " which was based on his own observations at Coldbath-fields prison[1] (proper title: Middlesex House of Correction and Clerkenwell Gaol a prison in the Mount Pleasant area of Clerkenwell).
