Wellington Ernest Groves (c1869-1958)

1919 of the Electric Supply Dept., Dale End, Birmingham.[1]

1958 Died. 'One of the pioneers of electricity in Birmingham, Mr. Wellington Ernest Groves, of Lyttleton Road. Edgbaston, has died. He was 89 years of age. Mr. Groves was among the first half dozen men who introduced electricity to the city before the turn of the century when a private firm started a supply. He continued as mains engineer when the Corporation took over and formed the City of Birmingham Electricity Supply Department. Mr. Groves invented the Groves ohms meter. He retired shortly before the second world war.'[2]
