1844 'Proprietors and Licensees of Thirteen Patents (seven of which are wholly applicable to boilers and furnaces) for the economy of fuel and consumption smoke, are now prepared to erect their smoke burners, on reserving to themselves (as payment) the value of coals saved in three years by their use, or a small patent right. Manufacturers and others are referred to the last six months’ erections. London at Messrs. Mann and Son, Albion Brewery, Whitechapel, two 30-horse boilers and moveable firebars. Mr. Robinson, saw mills, Belvidere-road Lambeth, steam boiler. Mr. Young, glue manufacturers, Spa-road, Bermondsey, seven boilers and pans. Procktor, Fort Place, Bermondsey, 3 furnaces to glue pans. At Clithero, Thomson, Brothers and Sons, eight boilers, 30-horse, and moveable fire bars; and 6 furnaces to stoves, dressing plate, and gas retorts. At Leeds, Horner and Dockray, steam boiler; at Georges, Ricketses, and Co., Bristol brewery, brewing copper, two steam boilers and moveable fire bars; Pounlney and Golding. Bristol pottery, steam boiler; at Bath, Twerton Wilkins, and Co., 25-horse boiler and moveable fire bars; C. Hooper and Co., Easington mills, two steam boilers and moveable fire bars; at Stroud, R. and P Smith, two steam boilers; at Melksham, Phillips and Smith, three steam boilers; at Stonehouse, Davies Cole and Davies. three ditto; Davies & Co., Holt, two steam boilers; at Haigh, Wigan, the Earl of Belcarres’ four steam boilers with moveable fire bars; and Bevan and Whittaker, Wigan, three steam boilers, and moveable fire bars; at Stockport, W. and J. Bradshaw, and J. and R. Gees, &c., &c.; also to dyers, bleachers, brewers.'[1]
