of Elton Glass Works, Leyton, London, glass makers

1919 Business established

1935 Company incorporated

1946 'Messrs W. J. CHILD, of the Eton Glass Works, George Road, Leyton, have lost their appeal against the refusal of the Dunmow R.D.C. to allow an extension of existing glass works at Great Heath Farm, Hatfield Heath. The existing glass works were established during the war and without "planning permission" in old farm buildings in the centre the village of Hatfield Heath. Now the Minister of Town and Country Planning (Mr. Silkin) shares the Council's view that a glass works is not the type of industry which should become permanently established in a village the character of Hatfield Heath." The proposed development would be "out of harmony," the Minister adds.'[1]
