Stanley Spinning Co
of Lees Brook, Oldham.
1885 Explosion of an economiser at the mill. 'Two men who were near the economiser
at the time were killed on the spot, while four
others were dreadfully injured. One of these has
since died, and there are but faint hopes of recovery
in a fourth case.'[1].
Since our previous reference another of the injured men
have died, making four deaths in all.'. The inquest proceedings were reported at length, along with editorial comments.[2]. Despite the length, no satisfactory explanation was offered. Subsequently Joseph Twibill (Jr?) of Broadheath Foundry wrote to Engineering to express his views.[3]
