Francis Wigley was born at Manchester in 1811, and was for some time actively engaged with the firm of Messrs. Sharp Roberts and Co. of that town.
In 1841 he went to Russia, and was engaged in the erection of machinery at various cotton and sugar works in that country.
He returned to England in 1857, and during the last two years was partner in the firm of Messrs. Fothergill Wrigley and Smith, consulting engineers, Manchester.
He became a Member of the Institution in 1859, and died on 2nd Aug. 1862 after an illness of only a few days duration.
