1838 Advertisement: York Street Iron Works, Leeds to be sold by the order of the trustees of Mr Zebulun Stirk. Machinery to be sold included a 26 ft bed planing machine; a 'Machine for cutting wheels and pinions, on Ramsden’s plan'; new textile machinery and steam engines of 12 - 30 HP [3]
1841 Living at Leeds: Zebr Stick (age c55), Machine maker. Also James Stick (age c15); Jno Wade Thornton (age c25);, Book-Keeper; Sarah Stick (age c55); Harriet Atkinson (age c15); and Sarah Ann Thornton (age c7).[4]
1851 Living at 17 Bishopgate Street, Leeds: Zebulun Stirk (age 69 born Otley), Machine Maker master employing 6 men. With his wife Sarah Stirk (age 66 born leeds). Also their grand-daughter Sarah A. Thornton (age 16 born Leeds).[5]
