Calcutta, 6th April, 1855; m. 1881, Mary. d. of Thomas Aveling, Rochester, Kent; one s. one d.; educated at St. Elizabeth College, Guernsey, and R.M.A. Woolwich; R.E. entered the Army, 1874; Served in India in the Afghan War, 1878-80; P.W.D., Punjab; Hazara expedition 1888; Under-Secretary, P.W.D., Punjab; Chitral Relief Force, 1895; Ofg.
