William Robertson Johnston Bertram (1888-1951) of Albion Motors

WILLIAM ROBERTSON JOHNSTON BERTRAM spent nearly the whole of his career with Albion Motors, Ltd., Glasgow.
He was born in 1888 and, after receiving a general education in Edinburgh at George Heriot's School, studied engineering at the Heriot Watt College in that city, and at the Royal Technical College, Glasgow.
He obtained practical training with John Greig and Sons, Ltd., makers of printing machinery, and Bertrams, Ltd., papermakers, both of Edinburgh, from 1903 to 1909.
He then joined the staff of Albion Motors, Ltd., as a fitter, proceeding a year later to the drawing office as a junior. Prior to the 1914-18 war he had had ten years' service in the Territorial Force, first in the 5th Royal Scots and afterwards in the Royal Army Service Corps, with which he saw service in France until 1919.
He then returned to Glasgow to resume his duties with Albion Motors. During his long period of service he filled a variety of positions, including those of charge hand and junior and senior draughts- man. Finally he was given charge of the spares literature department.
Mr. Bertram had been an Associate Member of the Institution since 1920.
His death occurred on 3rd December 1951.
