Dudley Eugene Batty was born in 1875, and was educated at Wellington College and University College.
His practical training was received at the works of Harland and Wolff, Ltd., and Willans, Robinson, Ltd., after which he was on design work for Mather and Platt, Ltd., and then received an appointment as Superintending Engineer with the British Westinghouse Co., Ltd.
After a further six years in partnership in a general and automobile engineering business, he returned to the British Westinghouse Co. in charge of gas engine sales.
In 1916 he joined the Associated Equipment Co. and was later appointed Experimental Engineer, a post which he occupied until his death which took place on 3rd December, 1933, at the age of 58.
He was elected a Member of the Institution in 1923, served on the Council during Session 1931-32 and again from October, 1933, until his death.
