Drypool Engineering and Drydock Co
Drypool Engineering and drydock Co. came into existence in 1921 when the Rix family of Hull set up a company for dhiprepair of their fleet. Prior to this, the family had traded as an engineering business.
Shipbuilding
- 1930s - the yard focussed on reconditioning a newly purchased Rowboitham coastal tanker named Pointsman. This contact with Shell-mex and BP led ulitmately into shipbuilding in 1958.
- 1950s - During the 50s th eyard was expanded to fiver berths and five dry docks and then went on to vuild seventy ships plus coastal tankers. This level of work took the company throught the 60s and 70s.
- 1970s - Along with the above, the yard also built dry cargo-coasters, hoppers, oil rig supply vessels and six water caarriers for the Royal Navy. The company ran into finanjcial difficulties in 1975 and was liquidated at the end of the same year.
