Drypool Engineering and Drydock Co

Drypool Engineering and Drydock Co. came into existence in 1921 when the Rix family of Hull set up a company for shiprepair of their fleet. Prior to this, the family had traded as an engineering business.

Shipbuilding

• 1930s - The yard focussed on reconditioning a newly purchased Rowbotham coastal tanker named Pointsman. This contact with Shell-Mex and BP led ultimately into shipbuilding in 1958.
• 1950s - During the 50s the yard was expanded to fiver berths and five dry docks and then went on to build seventy ships plus coastal tankers. This level of work took the company through the 60s and 70s, it also took over two other yards.
• 1970s - Along with the above, the yard also built dry cargo-coasters, hoppers, oil rig supply vessels and six water carriers for the Royal Navy. The company ran into financial difficulties in 1975 and was liquidated at the end of the same year.
